Across Australia, properties spent a median 34 days on the market before finding a buyer during the January quarter, according to CoreLogic.

That included a median 29 days in the capital cities and 44 days in the regions (see graph).

Days on market are a good indicator of the level of buyer competition and price pressure โ€“ the lower the number, the hotter the market.

As the data show, thereโ€™s considerable variation among our capital cities:

* Perth = 11 days
* Brisbane = 22 days
* Adelaide = 29 days
* Sydney = 35 days
* Melbourne = 36 days
* Canberra = 42 days
* Hobart = 44 days
* Darwin = 61 days
