Good news for buyers: there's been a sharp rise over the past year in property sellers reducing their asking price to meet the market, according to CoreLogic.
Over the year to February 2023, the median vendor discount across Australia increased from 3.1% to 4.2%.
To put that into perspective, if a home was listed for $500,000 and then discounted by 4.2%, the new price would be $479,000.
Vendor discounts increased in every capital city in the year to February:
* Sydney = from 3.3% to 4.5%
* Darwin = from 3.9% to 4.5%
* Hobart = from 3.1% to 4.4%
* Brisbane = from 2.9% to 4.2%
* Melbourne = from 3.3% to 4.2%
* Adelaide = from 2.9% to 4.0%
* Canberra = from 2.9% to 3.9%
* Perth = from 3.0% to 3.3%
